Indian Classical Dance Forms – Most Impressive for art lovers

As I am truly inspired by India and its culture, my previous blogs shows that J , today thought of writing on the various dance forms of Indians classical dance. Unlike other unique things that India holds, the classical dance of India as well shows its unique existence. From expression to attire, it proves to be outstanding in its own way.

Dance is considered to be a sacred form of worshiping god. It brings happiness as well as inner peace. I am going to mention few famous dance forms which are known and learnt throughout India. There are eight principal classical dance forms originated from India. BHARAT NATYAM: Bha – Bhavam which means expression, Ra – Ragam means music, Ta – Talam means rhythm, and Natyam means dance. All these words combined together give the meaning of bharat natyam.  Bharat Natyam came into existence from the southern part of India, Tamil Nadu. The inspiration came from the sculptures of the ancient temple of Chidambaram. Bharat Natyam is don’t on Carnatic Music.

 

  KATHAK: The name Kathak derived from the Sanskrit word “Katha” which means Story. And Kathak in Sanskrit means denoting someone who tells the story. During ancient times, the professional story tellers use to tell stories with some element of dance in it. This form came into existence from Uttar Pradesh, India. The style used in Kathak has very few elements found in Natya Shastra.

KATHAKALI: This dance form is well known for its costume, attractive makeup, well known body movements. It originated in the state of Kerala during 17^th century. It is done with contemporary music. It is traditionally believed that Kathakali emerged from the life activities of Lord Krishna.
 

  KUCHIPUDI: Kuchipudi is a dance form originated from Andra Pradesh, India. The dance is performed on typical carnatic music. Kuchipudi is a name of village in Krishna district near Bay of Bengal. It is where this form acquired its name from.


MANIPURI: This dance form originated from Manipur, north eastern India. Manipur is surrounded by mountains and geographically isolated from the mainland of India because of which it has its own values and ethics. The dance of Lord Krishna and Radha is responsible for the main formation of this form of dance. This dance form is purely religious and spiritual. This dance form is considered to be the most meaningful dance form in the world.


 


  ODISSI: It originated from the state of Odisha, Eastern India. This dance form takes place with the break into three parts. The three parts include the independent movement of head, chest and Pelvis. This is what makes this form unique from all the other forms of dance.


  SATTRIYA: This dance form was founded by Vaishnavism in Assam, the great saint in 15^th century.  This dance form is generally a way to present mythological teachings to people. Traditionally this dance form was performed only by males but today it is performed by both male and female.


MOHINIYATTAM: Mohiniyattam is a classical dance form originated from Kerala, Indi during 16^th century. It is performed solely by women. The meaning of the word Mohiniyattam means “Dance of the enchantress”. The main theme of the dance is love and devotion to God .This dance form is devoted to Lord Vishnu who kept the form of Mohini to save Lord Shiva from Demon.

Kanha National Park - A Legendary Journey

Another legendry anticipated journey from India...This time its in the residence of "Mogli"."Jungle Book" - The Famous Novel. It is Kanha National Park. The lush sal and bamboo forests, grassy meadows and ravines of Kanha provided inspiration to Rudyard Kipling for his famous novel "Jungle Book". Kanha is one of India’s largest national parks, covering 1 945 km², and is located in the Maikal Hills of the Satpura Hills range in the south eastern part of the state of Madhya Pradesh. The Park has beautiful areas of sal forests, large bamboo stretches and lush green meadows. SAFARI - Various efforts to increase general awareness about nature conservation. We are expected to use all of our senses during park safari. Watching animals is one thing, calls of deers, humming insects, songs of bird, fragrance of plants, crawling of reptiles on fallen dry-leaves is unique experience. At the same time signs and road-side markers, pugmarks, scratch-marks of trees are also some unique seen of jungle and deserves to be captured in camera. So in a sum-up we can say we should keep all our senses open and active and not to allow any movement un-scanned. These are the marks by tiger. Whenever any other tiger enters his territory, he has to put the mark on the tree and if he doesn’t, there is a war. Whoever wins takes the territory. I wonder how the king takes care of his territory. Reminded me of the movie “TROY”. CHECKLIST OF MAMMELS IN KANHA NATIONAL PARK : TIGER SIGHTING:  During our visit we had 4 private jeep safaris booked. We had perfect tiger sightings first day itself during our stay and had some excellent close up photos. We also saw an Indian gaur, deer (3 types), wild boar and lots of birds. And my heart skipped a beat when I saw tiger crossing the road. We were on an open jeep. But as told by guide, they are not going to harm you unless you harm them.   The probability of sighting a tiger is high during the months of April, May and June for the simple reason that water availability across jungle is limited (man made artificial water holes in most forests)and the tiger comes to the water body to quench its thirst. However the temperature can be high. PEACOCK DANCE : Everywhere nature is an untold mystery and a wonder for all. One such gift of nature is to watch the awesome dance of the peacock. DEER WATCHING: Like the mule deer, they are found in elevation areas. Each year, male deer re-grow their antlers. They are browsers and can be found eating grasses, leaves, wildflowers, twigs and buds from various trees. Mule deer play an important role in the wildlife food chain. They are the primary prey of mountain lions. Mule deer also can be taken by coyotes and bobcats. Unfortunately several also fall victim each year to a mechanized predator, the automobile. Once we entered the reserve, realized why Rudyard Kipling was so inspired to write the Jungle Book. A beautiful jungle, very well maintained with utmost care and priority to the wildlife. Great flora and fauna. A well maintained national park. The entry, guides allocation and speed of security clearance before entering the park were well organized and speedy. The roads inside the park were well kept and regular shrub clearance and control. Plenty of rangers and trackers visibly seen working. The meadows and grass lands and water holes were well marked and easily accessed. We enjoyed our three days of safari in this peaceful park and found the drivers and guides to be very knowledgeable.
